Farmington Parents, How Long is Your Child's School Bus Ride?

Parents who say their kids are on the bus for more than an hour voiced their concerns at Monday's Board of Education meeting.

The threshold for a Farmington school bus ride is an hour, but some parents say their kids' bus rides after school have been longer.

Julie Zink, Cristina Rodrigues, Jodie Campagnano, parents from the Cedar Ridge neighborhood, raised concerns at Monday's school board meeting about long bus rides from Westwood Upper Elementary School to their kids' stop. There were other parents who shared their complaints who were not able to make the meeting.

The parents said the bus rides often last 70 to 80 minutes, slightly longer than the limit.

They asked the board for the route to be split into two, one for bus stops on one side of Interstate 84 and the second for the other side.

Farmington Superintendent Kathy Greider told the mothers that the district is reviewing their request and that she'd likely get back to them by the end of the week.

School board Chairperson Mary Grace Reed said that it's not uncommon at the beginning of the school year to have reported issues of bus ride duration.

She determined that the matter is not a board issue and that the parents can work the issue out with Grieder and school officials.
