Local Students Invited to Summer Arts Program

Multicultural program joins Farmington, Hartford, New Britain, Plainville and Simsbury students and teachers for summer fun and enrichment.

The Farmington, Hartford, New Britain, Plainville and Simsbury Public Schools in collaboration with the University of Connecticut are offering a 15-session arts and creative writing program for students grades 3-9. 

The dates are July 5-25, 2012 (8:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.). Instruction is provided by certified teachers and professional visual and performing artists from Farmington and other participating towns. Activities will include the following:

  •  Visits to art museums
  •  Drawing, painting, puppetry, book illustration and mural production
  •  Performing arts including dance and African drumming
  •  Creative writing
  •  Demonstrations by professional artists, performers, and writers

Activities will be scheduled at the following sites:

  •  New Britain Museum of American Art
  •  The Hill-Stead Museum
  •  Farmington High School

Enrollment is limited to students from the sponsoring districts. There are no costs other than a $35 registration fee, which may be waived based on financial need. Daily bus transportation will be provided from designated pick-up sites in Hartford, Plainville and New Britain.
