Farmington's Chia-Yi Jean Receives CHET Advance Scholarship

A Farmington student is one of 200 high school seniors to receive the CHET Advance Scholarship.

At the end of October, State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier announced that Chia-Yi Jean, of Farmington, was one of the recipients of the first annual scholarships at the end of October. The students each receive a $2,500 grant to help pay for college, according to a press release.

“CHET Advance Scholarship will help these students meet the ever-rising costs of higher education, and allow them to spend less time worrying about how to pay for college and more time focused on getting into college and staying in college,” said Nappier, who also serves as trustee for the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET).

There were 3,635 applicants from "85 public high schools, 10 parochial high schools and 3 independent high schools in Connecticut," the press release said.
