Transportation:

We worked closely with our police department, town road personnel and our bus company to conduct practice bus runs throughout the town.  This combined information on our roadways has allowed us to identify areas of concern related to downed trees and lines.  To ensure safety and avoid identified problem areas, we have attached a list of revised bus stops to this communication.  We will post and continue to update this list on our website (www.fpsct.org).

Here are some informational items related to transportation:

  • CL & P will have representatives at identified areas of concern along bus and walking routes.  As an additional safety measure, our police department and staff will monitor identified areas throughout the town.  To increase awareness at schools, a group of PTO members received training on electrical wire safety by CL&P representatives.
  • Please call 860-673-8281 if you experience transportation issues or safety concerns.
  • As an additional precaution, late buses will not run this week.

Transitioning Back to School:

We thank you for your patience and flexibility as we return to school.  We understand that the lack of power in homes of Farmington families continues to be a challenge.  Our staff will work with families who are experiencing hardships as well as issues related to student attendance and work assignments.

Here are some informational items about transitioning back to school:

  • Lunch in Schools:  Regular lunch waves will occur across all schools.
  • First Day Back:  We have prepared lessons for the first day back to provide time for students to talk about their experiences over the course of last week and to begin to look forward to a more consistent daily schedule.
  • Charging Stations: We have set up “charging stations” at each of our schools to power up cell phones during pick-up or drop-off.
  • Evening Activities: For those families without power, we are working with our PTO leaders and faculty to offer activities each evening this week.

Other Important Informational Items:

  • CL & P Representatives:  Due to the fluctuations in power restoration in our schools, CL & P will have a representative at each school in case we experience a loss of power at our schools.  This provides a direct line of communication from our schools to CL&P to ensure a quick response time as issues arise.
  • EXCL:  EXCL will be open at all locations.
  • Report Cards and Conferences: Information on possible adjustments to reports card distribution or parent conferences will be communicated to families by each school principal.
  • Make-Up Days:  The Board of Education will review our calendar policy at their November 28 meeting and discuss Farmington’s plan to make up the days we have missed.
  • Veteran’s Day:  Please remember, school will be in session on Friday, November 11.

I want to acknowledge the work of our administrators, faculty and staff in preparing our schools to welcome students back to school.  I have been heartened by our school community’s response to this unforeseen crisis.  I thank you, each of you, for your understanding and patience.  If there is anything we can do to assist your family, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Kathleen C. Greider
