Get Involved in Project Graduation 2012

Help needed to make Project Graduation 2012 continue in tradition of chem-free, fun-filled, all-night party.

By Carmela Russell

High school graduation is a much anticipated and memorable event in the lives of our young people. It is a milestone that engenders pride in parents and fosters a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in our students. Indeed it is reason to celebrate!

For 27 years, it has been a tradition in Farmington to celebrate its graduates by providing a chemical-free, fun-filled, and memorable all-night party. It is well-chaperoned and housed in a safe local venue. Such an event is sponsored by the Farmington High School Project Graduation Committee. This committee is a group of parents from the senior class, who graciously offer their time, efforts, talents, and skills, as well as, financial support to organize and execute this event.

The Farmington High School Project Graduation Committee of 2012 has been busy for the past three months enlisting the assistance and support of local businesses, organizations and service groups, churches, interested individuals, and other senior parents in an effort to make this celebration, one which the community can embrace with pride. Historically, graduates have been treated to refreshments aplenty, been engaged in numerous activities ranging from board games to dancing. They’ve been entertained by D.Js. and hypnotists and have had opportunities to win prizes throughout the all-night festivities. The graduates have exited the party verbally expressing their appreciation and delighted with the opportunity to have attended. It is the goal of Project Graduation 2012 to elicit the same sentiments and reactions from this year’s graduates.

The Farmington High School Project Graduation Committee of 2012 needs the help and financial support of more senior parents to ensure the success of this year’s celebration. Those interested in volunteering are urged to email the committee at fhsprojgrad@gmail.com. Graduation is tentatively scheduled for June 13. There is still much to be done, so get on board and help us “let the good times roll!”
