Students being bussed to their homes.

Update: Superintendent Kathleen Greider said Monday night that power had been restored to Irving A Robbins by afternoon.

Excited Irving A Robbins Middle School students danced and skipped through darkened halls Monday morning before being dismissed at 10:30 a.m. due to a power outage at the school.

Mitch Gross, Connecticut Light and Power spokesman, said the problem with the power was caused by a broken underground cable in the area, though the company does not know what caused the cable to fail. The company became aware of the problem at about 6 a.m., Gross said and trucks were dispatched to the area. The company anticipates the problem will be resolved around 2 p.m. today.

Parents were notified through Parent Link and according to staff, students will be dropped off at home by bus. Middle school students can be left at home without a parent present.

Collaborative preschool students at IAR will have a regular day and be dismissed at East Farms School. The day does count as a school day, Campbell said.
