Master Cho Introduces Students to Taekwondo

Olympic Taekwondo Academy brings introductory class to Union School to benefit PTO.

Union School students got a kick out of taekwondo when an introductory taekwondo class was offered weekly at Union School in January. First, second, and third-grade students participated in the class, offered through the EXCL program in partnership with the Union School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

Children learned respect, focus, self-confidence, and dedication as part of the taekwondo curriculum.  Classes were taught by Master Cho and his staff from the Olympic Taekwondo Academy in Unionville.  Master Cho is a fifth-degree black belt and international champion in the sport of taekwondo. Master Cho generously donated his all proceeds from the class to the Union School PTO.

On February 2, the class concluded with a graduation ceremony attended by principal Lynn Katz as well as teachers and parents.  It was quite a thrill for the students to see Mrs. Katz successfully break a board using the "hammer fist" breaking technique. All of the participants received certificates, and A.J. Rapp, a first grader, was awarded the trophy for "Most Improved Student."
