New Noah Wallace Principal is 2012-13 Teacher of the Year

Kelly Sanders will take over for Dr. Diane Cloud at the end of the school year.

Superintendent Kathleen C. Greider and the Farmington Board of Education announced the appointment of Kelly Sanders as Principal of Noah Wallace Elementary School effective July 1, 2013.

Ms. Sanders, who has spent her entire professional career in the Farmington school district, currently serves as the literary specialist at West District School and was named Farmington’s Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013.

Ms. Sanders will replace Dr. Cloud who is scheduled to retire on June 30, 2013.  She was chosen after a comprehensive national search.

“Kelly Sanders has dedicated her entire professional career in education to the Farmington school district. She has served as a leader at the school and district levels in the areas of literacy, curriculum development, teaming, data collection and professional learning," Greider said. 

"Ms. Sanders is a collaborator and an innovative instructional leader... In partnership with the faculty, staff, students and parents of Noah Wallace Elementary School, Ms. Sanders will continue the forward thinking improvement work that has occurred under the leadership of Dr. Diane Cloud."

Assistant Superintendent Wynne states, “Noah Wallace School will continue its tradition of excellence with Ms. Sanders as instructional leader. Her positive and enthusiastic approach to building supportive relationships is the right fit for this ‘caring and sharing’ school community.” 

Upon her appointment, Ms. Sanders commented, “I am deeply honored to have been selected as the next Principal of Noah Wallace School. I have already had 24 rewarding years in Farmington, working as a teacher and literacy specialist. It is a dream come true to take this next step in such an exceptional school system, dedicated to high levels of achievement for all students. I look forward to getting to know and working together with the students, their families,  teachers, and staff, in continuing the important Noah Wallace tradition of educational excellence since 1904. I am so very proud to be joining the warm, nurturing community that is Noah Wallace School.” 

At West District School, Ms. Sanders has served as Acting Principal in her Principal’s absence. Her collaborative work with the district literacy team to ensure horizontal and vertical alignment of the curriculum in the district has been extraordinary.

Ms. Sanders has been a leader in building a professional learning community across the district. Her influence has been felt in Kindergarten through Grade 12. She has planned and provided professional development, collected and analyzed data and supervised coaching interventions.

Ms. Sanders has been instrumental in the organization and supervision of our Summer Learning Academy which serves over 180 students annually in Farmington.

Ms. Sanders earned her Masters of Education in Elementary Education from Smith College and her BA from Michigan State University. She will complete her Sixth-Year Diploma from the University of Connecticut in May 2013. 

Ms. Sanders will begin as the Principal of Noah Wallace Elementary School on July 1, 2013.
