Project Graduation a Community Effort to Keep Kids Safe

Three hundred students will graduate Farmington High School on June 13th.

High school graduation is a much anticipated and memorable event in the lives of our young people.  It is a milestone that engenders pride in parents and fosters a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in our students.  Indeed it is reason to celebrate! How can you help make it a safe and memorable night?

For 27 years, Project Graduation has been a tradition in Farmington to celebrate its graduates by providing a chemical-free, fun-filled, and memorable all-night party. Project Graduation provides a safe opportunity for the entire graduating class to be together one last time. It is well-chaperoned and housed in a safe local venue. Parents don't have to worry about the graduates and the graduates have a great time being with classmates one last time.

Historically, graduates have been treated to refreshments aplenty, been engaged in numerous activities ranging from board games to dancing.  They’ve been entertained by D.Js. and hypnotists and have had opportunities to win prizes throughout the all-night festivities.  The graduates have exited the party expressing their appreciation and delighted with the opportunity to have attended.  It is the goal of Project Graduation 2012 to elicit the same sentiments and reactions from this year’s graduates.

It is a terrific Farmington tradition that speaks volumes about how the community values its young people. It is a tremendous volunteer effort by parents, Farmington High School, and school organizations.  The goal is very simple and very important — to that our FHS graduates celebrate their achievement and enjoy a fun-filled evening with their classmates in a safe and alcohol- and drug-free environment.

This event is sponsored by the Farmington High School Project Graduation Committee.  This committee is a group of parents from the senior class, who graciously offer their time, efforts, talents, and skills, as well as, financial support to organize and execute this event. Parents of Juniors and other underclassmen are asked to volunteer time to chaperone the party.

There are many ways to support the Project Graduation Committee, which is planning the June 13th Annual Event. The event runs 9:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. on graduation night.

Some of the ways you can support Project Graduation are:

Buy an Umbrella: Display your Farmington pride while keeping dry during those spring showers by purchasing an Umbrella in Maroon or Black.  Please click on the link above.

Send a flock of flamingos:  The popular “flamingo flocking” fundraiser is being seen all over town again this spring.  Get you flock today!  For a minimum tax-deductible of $25, you can have a flock of bright, pink flamingos placed on the lawn of a neighbor or friend.   A flock includes 12-14 birds which glide stealthily into place sometime after dark. The flock will nest comfortably on your lawn for one day before flying off to a new destination of your choosing.

Please contact fhsprojgrad@gmail.com to arrange a flamingo flocking, volunteer to chaperone, or to order your “Home of a FHS Graduate” sign.

Donations of food, goods or funds are appreciated. Please make checks payable to FHS Project Graduation and mail to:
