Snow Days Change Farmington School Calendar

With three days canceled due to weather already, the district is taking steps to make up days.

Despite relatively few snowstorms so far this year, it looks like it will be a short summer this year for Farmington students. The tentative last day of school in 2013 will be June 24, while school will resume for the 2013-14 school year on Aug. 26. That leaves just nine weeks in between.

Changes to the school calendar were decided at the Jan. 22 Board of Education and announced Tuesday by the superintendent.

The district has already had two days of cancellation due to Storm Sandy in October, with one more due to snow on Jan. 16. According to Board of Education policy, five days can be made up at the end of the year, after which makeup days are taken from April vacation.

To compensate, Superintendent Kathleen Greider recommended and received the board’s approval to use a professional development day scheduled for March 18 as one of the days. That day will be a regular school day for students.
