Ted Donahue Appointed IAR Principal

Assistant principal to step up to lead middle school July 2.

Theodore A. Donahue, current Assistant Principal at Irving A. Robbins Middle School has been appointed to the position of Principal at Irving A. Robbins Middle School.

On Monday, May 7, the Farmington Board of Education unanimously appointed Donahue to the position. After a rigorous national search process, Mr. Donahue was selected out of an impressive pool of over 65 candidates. Mr. Donahue’s official first day as Principal of Irving A. Robbins Middle School will be July 2.

Mr. Donahue has spent his entire teaching and administrative career in Farmington. In 2000, he was hired as a Social Studies teacher at Farmington High School. In 2006, Mr. Donahue was appointed Social Studies Department Leader. In this position, he supervised and supported faculty in the Social Studies Department. He evaluated curricula and assisted in the development of new curriculum. In addition, he has served as co-chair to the Social Studies Vertical Team and Curriculum Academy presenter and coach.

In 2009, Mr. Donahue was appointed Dean of Students at Farmington High School. Along with the leadership responsibilities of the Dean of Students, he has demonstrated visionary leadership as the co-chair of the Capstone Project Committee and chair of the NEASC Accreditation Committee. In addition, he has planned and delivered professional development and supported collaborative teams. In 2011, Mr. Donahue was appointed Assistant Principal of Irving A. Robbins Middle School.

Mr. Donahue is an exceptional leader who is deeply committed to strategic and continuous improvement. In his work as Assistant Principal of Irving A. Robbins, Mr. Donahue has exhibited high expectations, urgency and a commitment to the success of every child. He is a skilled communicator and understands the power of collaboration to support continuous improvement efforts.

Superintendent Greider states, “Mr. Donahue’s commitment and dedication to the students, faculty and families of Irving A. Robbins Middle School is unwavering. He has been an asset to the entire school community during a time of leadership transition. Mr. Donahue has established himself as an outstanding instructional leader, supervisor and curriculum specialist. We are fortunate to have such an extraordinary educator who will serve as Principal of Irving A. Robbins Middle School."

Upon acceptance of his appointment, Mr. Donahue stated, It has been a true privilege to work with, and learn from, IAR’s exceptional faculty, staff, students and families this past year. I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as Principal of this very special school. I look forward to many years of learning and growing together to ensure that all IAR students continue to achieve at high levels.”

Mr. Donahue will replace Mr. Campbell who has served as Interim Principal for the 2011-2012 school year. Mr. Campbell is a retired FHS administrator who graciously accepted the position of interim principal of IAR.

Brief Bio:

Mr. Donahue has dedicated his entire teaching and administrative career to the Farmington community. In 2000, he was hired as a Social Studies teacher at Farmington High School. In 2006, Mr. Donahue was appointed Social Studies Department Leader. In 2009, Mr. Donahue was appointed Dean of Students at Farmington High School. Mr. Donahue was appointed Assistant Principal of Irving A Robbins Middle School in 2011.

Mr. Donahue has an exceptional academic background as well as prior work experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Connecticut where he double majored in Spanish and Economics and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He holds a law degree from Drake University, awarded with honors. He completed the principal preparation program at the University of Connecticut in 2007. Prior to becoming an FHS Social Studies teacher, he practiced corporate and business law for seven years with a Hartford firm.
