Tunxis Celebrates Grand Reopening of Expanded Veterans’ OASIS

, joined by student veterans and other state officials, celebrated the grand reopening of its expanded Veterans’ OASIS on April 12. 

The renovation triples the size of the OASIS, short for Operation Academic Support for Incoming Service members, to 700 square feet. Two new social rooms were added to an existing study and computer area, providing a place for Tunxis student veterans to meet, study and socialize between classes.

An early gift from the Class of 2012, Tunxis Student Government Association funded the renovation. During the celebration, Transfer Enterprises, Inc. of Manchester received recognition for donating furniture for the new rooms, and the General Federated Womens’ Clubs of Bristol, Farmington Valley and Plainville were commended for raising funds to help support the Veterans’ OASIS. 

Located in Founders Hall, the Tunxis Veterans’ OASIS is part of a larger initiative started in 2008 by the Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs to form Vet OASIS Centers at all of Connecticut’s public colleges and universities. 

From fine arts, health, and technology to liberal arts & sciences programs, Tunxis offers over 60 associate’s degrees and certificates, providing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need. Tunxis is located at the junction of Routes 6 and 177 in Farmington.
