students celebrated Read Across America Day on March 2, 2012.  The annual reading motivation and awareness program calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss.  At Union School, all students participated in a reading marathon.  Classes read in back-to-back 20 minute shifts throughout the day in the main hallway.

Many students read Dr. Seuss books.  To make reading enjoyable experience, every student at Union School has been taught how to select books to read that interest them and that are at a level they mostly understand.

Union School librarian, Patty Farrah, who organized the festivities, said, "Research has shown that children who spend more time reading do better in school.  As Dr. Seuss put it so eloquently, 'The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.'"
