West District PTO Hosting Wine and Spirit Tasting

Bottle Shop in Unionville offering time, proceeds to stage a fun night benefiting the school.

Farmington residents will have a chance to enjoy an educational night out as they taste and learn about different kinds of alcohol while supporting education through the West District PTO.

The event is the West District Wine and Spirit Tasting to be held March 22 at the Farmington Club.

It is organized through the Bottle Shop in Unionville, which facilitates the tasting.

About 14 vendors will be set up, offering samples of wine, beer and whiskey and explaining the differences and qualities of their selections as guests travel through the different stations.

An array of appetizers will be offered as well.

Guests will also have the opportunity to bid in a silent raffle with baskets donated by numerous local businesses.

The event will be structured similarly to other wine tastings the Bottle Shop has sponsored, including one benefiting the Farmington Police.

“From what we’ve heard from some of the other ones, people just enjoy mixing and visiting and it doesn’t require a whole lot else,” explained West District PTO co-president Dawn Finkelstein.

“Our big thing is we just want to get the parents out to mingle, get to know each other and have a fun night out,” she said.

And of course, fund PTO activities in the upcoming months. Proceeds from the wine tasting will go help pay for cultural enrichment programs at the school, school needs and perhaps a donation to Sandy Hook Elementary School.

“We are looking this time of year typically to raise money for unbudgeted school items and also some kind of donation to Sandy Hook might be appealing,” Finkelstein said.

“We look at what has fallen through the cracks with the budget and anything we can help purchase for them.”

The Bottle Shop is also offering to donate 15 percent of proceeds from any orders that night to the PTO. Guests can pick out their favorite items to be delivered later.

Tickets can be obtained using the attached flyer and are $30 per person.
