Winter Storm Playing Out Today, Threatening Tomorrow

Council sets 2-3 percent budget increase as target

Good morning, Farmington and good morning, snow. Again. With some snow and dangerous driving conditions expected this morning, this storm promises a very messy commute with accumulation of up to five inches possible. The National Weather Service has issued a storm warning from 4 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Several events are planned for today, including Farmington girls basketball vs. Conard at Farmington High School at 4 p.m. We’ll let you know if the game has been canceled.

Kevin Daly, a special education consultant and member of SEPTA, will instruct parents on how to prepare for a PPT meeting to make it most profitable for parent and child. The purpose of a PPT, or planning and placement team meeting is to evaluate a student’s needs and create an individualized educational plan with a student’s teachers and administrators. The meeting will be at the Community Center at 7 p.m.

Finally, residents should know the Town Council last week voted to set the target budget increase at 2-3 percent over last year’s budget. The vote passed five to two, with Democrats Mike Demicco and John Vibert opposing. Members pointed to the average increase in the past few years as 2.8 percent, saying that number would maintain the status quo. Vibert and Demicco said that since the council made deliberate cuts to services during that time, a 2-3 percent increase demands reductions to current services. Budgets have not yet been drafted.
