Elementary Students Give Generously for Farmington Seniors

Farmington’s elementary schools collected more than $3,360 in extra change during Farmington Services for the Elderly’s March for Meals drive in support of its Meals on Wheels program.

At each elementary school, the classroom that collects the most money to donate to Meals on Wheels wins a pizza party. Naples Pizza generously makes its pies available to Farmington Services for the Elderly at a discounted cost.

West District Elementary School collected the most change of all the schools. Their found money came to $1,129.50, and Mrs. Fink’s class collected the most in the school, $176.50.

Union Elementary School was second overall with $744.59. Mrs. Bourget’s class collected the most in school with $123.62. But then Mrs. Bourget’s class voted and decided to donate the amount their pizza party would have cost to the Meals on Wheels Program, so $65.00 more dollars was added, making $158.62 the grand total for their donation.

Noah Wallace Elementary School collected $688.55 and Mrs. Hall’s class collected the most, $107.55. West Woods Upper Elementary School collected $431.22 and Mr. Forgione’s class collected the most, $95.45. East Farms Elementary School collected $310.30 and Mrs. Johnson’s class collected the most, $91.33.

Year-round, more than 160 volunteers across generations help their friends and neighbors through the Meals on Wheels program, bringing nutritious, balanced meals and a friendly hello to homebound clients. Services for the Elderly’s volunteers deliver more than 8,000 meals each year.

“In this tough economy, the food and human contact we provide to seniors in this community is appreciated more than ever. Our Meals on Wheels volunteers reach out to those in need and touch lives and lift spirits,” said Walker.
