Farmington's Preschoolers Open Piggy Banks to Support Seniors

The four year olds in teacher Tracy Bonini and Debbie Campbell’s class opened their piggy banks and gathered found change to bring to their nursery school, Kids’ Corner at Farmington Farms, run by director Lori Bizzozero.  The children raised more than $100 and celebrated with a pizza party from George's Pizza in Unionville.

March for Meals, a fundraising drive for Services for the Elderly of Farmington in support of its Meals on Wheels program, has enjoyed longstanding support from the Farmington schools, but this is the first year that preschoolers have participated.  Local businesses also provide essential support for the program.

Year-round, more than 160 volunteers across generations help their friends and neighbors through the Meals on Wheels program, bringing nutritious, balanced meals and a friendly hello to homebound clients.  Services for the Elderly’s volunteers deliver more than 7,000 meals each year.

“We are so touched that children this young are learning to care about others,” said Nancy Walker, Executive Director of Services for the Elderly, a partner agency with the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut .  “The need is real and their generosity is so appreciated.”

If anyone is interested in giving a few hours a month of your time to deliver Meals on Wheels please contact Nancy Walker at 860-673-1441 or email her at services@farmingtonseniors.org.
