Union School Students Decorate Pumpkins for Farmington Seniors Thanks to a Grant from the Farmington Community Chest to Farmington Services for the Elderly

Union School students decorated 80 pumpkins at EXCL, the afterschool enrichment program, in early October, but not to keep for themselves.  These beautifully painted, feathered and adorned pumpkins are gifts for Farmington seniors to let them know their young friends in Farmington are thinking of them.   The pumpkins were purchased thanks to a generous gift from the Farmington Community Chest to Farmington Services for the Elderly, whose volunteers delivered them on their regular Meals on Wheels delivery routes or they made a special trip.

"The students enjoyed decorating these pumpkins for the seniors in our town. It is a way for students to show off their creativity and give back to the community," said Meghan McGrath, the EXCL Site Supervisor at Union School.

Students were very excited to receive several thank you notes from some of the seniors.  “Thank you to the students who decorated the adorable pumpkins,” one note read.  “They make our home a very special place.”

Farmington Services for the Elderly is a non-profit volunteer agency providing valuable programs and services to Farmington’s senior citizens. It is funded by the United Way, the Town of Farmington, local service organizations, churches, businesses and private donations.
