Farmington High School Basketball Team Honored with Proclamation for State Championship Victory

Not only did Farmington High School close its varsity basketball season 22-5, but the girls also clinched a state championship title.

State officials and town councilmen awarded the team with a proclamation for a strong season at its last meeting.

Here's what the proclamation said:

"WHEREAS, in 2013 the Farmington High School Girls Basketball Team also known as  'The Farmington Indians' finished the season with an overall record of 22-5, with a tremendous season winning the Class L State Basketball Championship, and  

"WHEREAS, under the leadership and guidance of Head Coach Russ Crist and Assistant Coaches Keith Garbart,  Jeff Manaresi, and Kara Mitchell, the Team competed in the finals at the Mohegan Sun Arena against Bacon Academy, the defending state champions , with a nail-biting score of Farmington 49 and Bacon Academy 44, and  

"WHEREAS, the Farmington High School Girls Basketball Team won the 2013 state championship with a victory that will go down as one of the greatest moments in Farmington High School history, and  

"WHEREAS, the Farmington Town Council recognizes Town of Farmington Girls Basketball Team members Kaelin Baker,  Jamie Bartucca, Brittany Belisle, Sophie Borg, Safari Carr, Brittany Galske, Sam Garger, Courtney Hofer, Bridget Kelly, Sarah Lipinski, Cally Lombardi, Muna Momah, Cheray Saunders, Ally Walsh, Kelly Winner, and Abby Wollenberg for the accomplishments they demonstrated over the past several months and for their hard work, dedication, perseverance and love of the sport of basketball, and  

"WHEREAS, after several months of dedication, team work, and fun for a very talented basketball team and their coaches, the Farmington High School Girls Basketball season came to a remarkable end by being awarded the Central Connecticut Board 6 Official’s Sportsmanship Award.  

"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Farmington Town Council, in recognition of the accomplishment of the Farmington High School Girls Basketball Team, hereby proclaims May 14, 2013 as Farmington High School Girls Basketball Team Day.   Dated at Farmington, Connecticut this 14th day of May 2013."
