Unionville 7 Burlington/Harwinton 5

Senior Legion Baseball Unionville Post 32 on 2012-19-06

On Tuesday night June 19 Unionville traveled to neighboring New Britain to face Burlington/Harwinton on the beautiful all turf field at the new baseball complex at Central Connecticut State University.

Starting on the mound for Unionville was Mac Crispino who pitched five innings for the win.  Johnny Arcidiacono relieved for two to earn the save.  The duo combined to allow only five hits and strike out four.

Burlington/Harwinton was off to a good start when they plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the first.  With one out the base runner scored on a sac fly to left field.  Crispino struck out the next batter to end any further threat by BH.

In their half of the second frame Unionville answered back by plating three runs.  Jeff Schweighoffer laced a two RBI double to score Kozak and Arcidiacono.  Crispino scored on a wild pitch. Score 3-1 Unionville.

Both teams posted runs in the third frame with the boys from Post 32 plating two and Burlington/Harwinton scoring three of their own. Score 5-4, Unionville in the lead but Burlington/Harwinton nipping at their heels.

The U notched one more run in the fourth when Jimmy Mulpeter scored on Kozak’s sac fly but BH answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a run.

With the score 6-5 in the top of the seventh the boys from the ‘Ville were down to their last opportunity for an insurance run, Lead off batter Travis Kozak ripped a triple to center and next up Arcidiacono singled him home.

Reliever Arcidiacono made short work of the three batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win for Unionville.

Unionville will be on the road again Wednesday, June 20 at Winsted. Game time is 5:45.
