Unionville Loses Close One to Winsted

Senior Legion Baseball Unionville Post 32 on 2012-20-06

Summer solstice arrived on June 20 along with an oppressive heat index. Undaunted, the Unionville Hanrahan Post 32 boys of summer traveled up Route 44 for a lively contest with Winsted Post 43 at Walker Field.

Unionville was first on the scoreboard in the top of inning one when David Kerlezja blasted a deep triple to score Mac Crispino. Another run was posted in the fifth inning when Juan Rojas scored on Johnny Arcidiacono’s grounder to short. Two runners were left on base in the sixth as Unionville made a valiant attempt to push across a couple more runs. In the seventh inning, Unionville faced the third Winsted pitcher of the game and managed to get their bats on the ball but each of the three batters who came to the plate hit fly balls that were handled by Winsted fielders for a one two three inning.

Pitcher Chad Morin hurled six innings for Unionville.  He faced 27 batters, allowed eight hits, struck out two, and walked two. At the end of four complete innings, it was Unionville 1 Winsted 0. Winsted managed to plate two runners in the fifth to tie and another two in the sixth for the 4 to 2 win.
