Whitewater Triple Crown Kayak/Canoe Event Scheduled for April

New England Championships set to take place on the Farmington River in Tariffville and East Granby on April 28 and 29.

The following is a press release.

The Whitewater Triple Crown New England Championships, a premier whitewater event on the Farmington River between East Granby and Tariffville, is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29.

This annual event attracts top canoe and kayak talent from throughout the United States and Canada to compete in three major whitewater disciplines.

The competition will feature three disciplines: a Downriver Wild Water Race, which is all about speed; a Whitewater Slalom, in which paddlers must negotiate a series of gates in the fastest time; and Freestyle, an acrobatic contest of spins, cartwheels and flips.

Paddlers start their runs in Tariffville and end in East Granby, with the best viewing on the East Granby side of the river.

The East Granby Economic Development Commission (EDC) will sponsor a shuttle from the Center Shops to the viewing area due to limited onsite parking, and plans have been made for food and business vendors at the viewing site. The EDC is also seeking volunteers to help with the event.
