The First Church of Christ Congregational and St. James Parish Film Series continues Sunday, March 9th, at 5 p.m. in the St. James, Farmington parish hall, 3 Mountain Road. We will watch the period drama Places in the Heart, starring Danny Glover, Sally Fields (Academy Award), and John Malkovich. A woman (Field) is widowed and left with an overburdened cotton farm in 1930s Texas with no real way to bring in the current crop and save her farm. A hired worker (Glover) drifts into her life to help, as does a blind boarder she takes in. Issues of violence, racism, and resilience permeate this film and it seems to have a new vision of the kingdom of God. Film is rated PG-13 for several scenes of violence. Refreshments will be served and discussion to follow on race, redemption, and grace.
