Report: Past 12 Months the Warmest on Record in Lower 48

An NOAA study finds average temperatures since last July make the last year the hottest ever, more than 3 degrees warmer than the norm.

A report released Monday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration confirms what many of us thought we knew anecdotally: It's hotter than ever out there.

The NOAA's National Climactic Data Center's "State of the Climate: National Overview June 2012" report concludes that the period from July 2011 to June 2012 saw average temperatures in the Lower 48 states that were more than 3 degrees above the long-term average since record-keeping began in 1895.

And if you're into sweating the details, climate scientists say it's going to get worse.

According to the Huffington Post, NOAA's head of climate monitoring, Derek Arndt, was quoted recently as saying, "In the future you would expect larger, longer more intense heat waves and we've seen that in the last few summers."

According to other Huffington Post stories, a report by scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey found that sea level is rising at three to four times the global average in a "hotspot" along the Atlantic Coast, and a study by the National Research Council concluded that sea level in California will rise six inches by 2030.

The future that climate scientists have predicted for decades could be here. As one Princeton professor recently said, "What we are seeing is a window into what global warming really looks like."

@PullmyKowski: WTF are you talking about? OMG your head must blow clean off every night by the time you go to sleep at night. Or maybe you NEED some sleep and that's why you ramble such bullpuckey? Surely your qualified medical practitioner has presumably prescribed the appropriate pharmaceutical aid in order that you might be able to shake that "OMG I'm being watched/followed/recorded/insert another paranoia here feeling you're so unfortunately inundated with. Allow me to summarize your EVERY post (not that I read them in their entirety because they are so wind-baggedly-wind-baggedy): Progressive / Socialist; Progressive / Socialist; Progressive / Socialist...Am I right, sane people, or what? (Oh, and Bob Saget IS my real name, I swear. I'm just not from this town.)

Amend, Bob, Amend....now we clearly have living proof that some people (Paul Chotkowski) actually did believed the world was flat. Maybe Paul can lead the World back into the dark ages were his way of thinking actually make sense. Paul should be willing to sacrifice himself to prove that in spite of all the scientific data and research that proves today’s globe climate change is due mostly to man, he insist is a natural occurrence. Paul’s alter should be at sea level on a Bangladesh island with him spread- eagle-staked-down in the surf in hopes of sea level not rising. To show that we had no personal malaise against Paul we will feed him bread and water until he slowly drowns in his belief. This is a win, win situation for all parties involved. If Paul is correct he will end up losing weight with a great full body tan however if Paul is wrong it will be the last time he will ever be wrong. I wonder how many of his believers will follow him?

Grumpy over the Green is the new Red observation? It's rather like Social Justice is the new name for Marxism or was that "Collective Salvation"? Even if temperatures are increasing globally because of man, WHO CARES! I and most Americans are not willing to meekly follow the UN’s Agenda 21 into our 574 sq ft of Party approved urban housing, public transit to work & lights out at sunset fueled by our approved 1,600 calorie vegetarian diet in order to save the huts and shanties of people who were dumb enough [oops should have said oppressed by the colonial policies of the West & Capitalism] to build below sea level somewhere on the other side of the word [and redistribute the surplus I earned with the sweat of my brow along the way]. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! To those at risk for whatever reason where ever, stop waiting for the government to save you! They’re not coming. @ Mlyorker, I offer my usual - use your real first and last name it will improve your credibility. I also offer to establish a public Meet Up for coffee and conversation concerning freedom vs Green Marxism. I hadn't realized that the Bull “Ad extirpanda” was making a comeback this time in defense of the “Green or is it the Red” faith. If you wish to continue to "discuss" your “spread-eagle-staked-down” recommendation, then the firm of S & W - H & K [Dewey, Cheatem & Howe was not available] suggested that Patch might want to better police their boards. One wouldn't want the Sheepole getting nervous.

Ok Paul, I will attempt again to assist you in overcoming your denial of the present day "Man-made Global climate change reality check". Paul this may cause you pain so please read slowly what the climate experts are reporting...The sea ice in the Arctic Ocean has melted to its smallest point ever in a milestone that may show that worst-case forecasts on climate change are coming true, US scientists said. The extent of ice observed on Sunday broke a record set in 2007 and will likely melt further with several weeks of summer still to come, according to data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center and the NASA space agency...Scientists s Michael E. Mann, a lead author of a major UN report in 2001 on climate change, said the latest data reflected that scientists who were criticized as alarmists may have shown "perhaps too great a degree of reticence..I think, unfortunately, this is an example that points more to the worst-case scenario side of things," said Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University....Researchers have also reported a dramatic melt this summer on the ice sheet in Greenland, which could have major consequences for the planet by raising sea levels. Scientists believe that climate change is caused by human emissions of carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions. Paul, are you still there? Are you ok? Do you require medical attention? @ Mlyorker I’ll give you climate change for the sake of the discussion but the narcissism of Eco Marxists is pathological. It doesn't matter what their mothers told them, THEY ARE NOT SPECIAL nor is the world that they experience. Their existence does not mandate that future generations must experience the world as they have. Change happens, species die, species evolve, people die [see Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot all good Socialist / Marxist murders], climates change, civilizations rise & fall, waters rise & fall and neither you nor BHO can alter that! Until the monetary system collapses, the third world will continue to improve its standard of living & you will never “reverse” your man made global warming unless you prevent this improvement. NO AMOUNT OF DECLINE IN THE US STANDARD OF LIVING WILL OFFSET THE THE INCREASED CONSUMPTION IN THE THIRD WORLD. On average, China is opening 1 new coal fired power plant a week - fact deal with it. Your imaginable horribles are going to happen & there is NOTHING that you can do about it short of a “ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT” a la Agenda 21 which quickly assumes power & imposes by force its will on the peoples of the Earth. With the exception of a handful of ELITES [like you], we all go back to our 640 sq ft of living space & power off at 2100! So pretending that Green is not the new Red and that there is a credible reason for your desired for central control other than control itself is chicken excrement Comrade Environmentalist.
