Summer Concert Series Kicks Off Tonight

Farmington Recreation, Unionville Museum series features a variety of genres throughout the summer.

Farmington Recreation and the Unionville Museum will kick off the 2012 Summer Concert Series today with Eight to the Bar at the in Unionville. The series, which brings friends, neighbors and families to the green to enjoy a casual concert in the summer air, runs Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The concerts span a variety of genres, offering something for everyone. And don't forget the 25th Annual Ice Cream Sundae Night on Tuesday, June 26 at 6 p.m. sponsored by Farmington Recreation and Ben & Jerry's of Canton.

Refreshments sold at the Summer Concert Series benefit the Unionville Lion’s Club, which supports charities and local community projects.

In case of rain, concerts will be held at the Farmington Community & Senior Center, 321 New Britain Ave., Unionville.

EIGHT TO THE BAR (June 21) — Drawing its musical influences from American roots music; swing, boogie woogie, rhythm & blues, soul, Motown, - Eight to the Bar is known for its outstanding instrumentalists and sophisticated musical and vocal arrangements, highlighted by female vocals.

AMY GALLATIN & STILLWATERS (June 28) — Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters featuring Roger Williams on guitar have been performing country, folk, and western swing worldwide. The musical influence is diverse, ranging from old and contemporary cowboy tunes to great country artists and a dash of blues influence thrown in.

SIMPLY SWING SPONSORED BY FARMINGTON BANK (July 5) — This amazing 10 piece swing orchestra featuring six swinging horns, a dynamic rhythm section and talented Big Band vocalist, Vivian LaRosa specializes in recreating the music & memories of the Big Band & Swing Dance eras.

BEATLES FOREVER (July 19) — For more than 40 years, the timeless music of the Beatles has touched multiple generations of music lovers.    Beatles Forever is an experienced group of five extremely talented musicians. Experience the best of the Beatles from the early days all the way to the final tracks of Let It Be.

THE SKID MARKS (July 26) — The Skid Marks have been entertaining audiences across the U.S. with all those wonderful hits from the 50's and 60's when Rock & Roll was fun and Elvis was King. They bring freshness to the tunes you remember from your youth or maybe, if you're real young, have just "discovered."

THE SOUNDS OF FRANK (August 2) — A six member musical and vocal group with 25 years of professional experience, Sounds of Frank, takes a nostalgic walk down memory lane listening to all of your favorites of Frank Sinatra.
