Unionville Bests Burlington/Harwinton

Senior Legion Baseball Unionville Post 32 on 2012-12-07

On July 12, a beautiful night for baseball, Unionville Post 32 faced Burlington/Harwinton at Savin Field on the campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. Unionville bested Burlington/Harwinton by a score of 11 to 1 in a shortened five-inning game by virtue of the mercy rule. 

The top of the first inning saw Unionville batters come to the plate fifteen times.  The number one and two batters struck out and with two outs, the team went on to post 10 runs on 8 hits. Jeff Schweighoffer was the first to reach with a single, and blasted a 2 RBI triple in his second at bat for the inning. Justin Rappaport also drove a triple all the way to the fence to plate three and Jack Roy laced a single to score two more.  David Kerlejza, Travis Kozak and Max Spracklin each recorded RBI singles. Matt LeBlanc singled.

In the fourth, Johnny Arcidiacono reached on a fielder’s choice to plate Unionville’s only other run. The boys from the ‘Ville notched 14 hits in five innings of play.

Bailey Meccariello handled the pitching duties for Unionville.  He allowed only four hits, walked four and struck out one. 

Additional offensive contributions:  Jimmy Mulpeter 2 singles; Kerlejza, Kozak and LeBlanc each hit another single and Colin Brantner singled.

Unionville is back in action against Avon Friday, July 13 at Tunxis Mead Park in Farmington.  First pitch is 7:00 p.m.
