Unionville Shuts Out Avon

Senior Legion Baseball Unionville Post 32 on 2012-13-07

Friday the thirteenth proved to be lucky for Unionville but unlucky for Avon as Chad Morin and David Kerlejza combined to pitch a shut out against the Zone One second place team.  Morin started on the mound for Unionville and was strong for 5 2/3 innings.  The first four innings saw all zeros up on the scoreboard for Avon. Morin effectively worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth. Kerlejza relieved in the sixth with two outs and runners on first and second but made short work of the next batter to retire the sides.

Matt Koenig and Liam O’Connor handled the pitching duties for Avon.  The duo combined to give up seven hits and strike out five.  The only walk was intentional in the fifth to load the bases. Koenig struck out the next batter for out number three.

Offensive contributions for Unionville:  Jeff Schweighoffer went 2 for 3 with an RBI double and a single; Justin Rappaport double, run scored; Peter Nanos RBI single; Jimmy Mulpeter single, run scored; Jack Roy and Chad Morin chipped in one apiece and Travis Kozak scored a run.
