Unionville Splits A Pair With Winsted

Senior Legion Baseball Unionville Post 32 on 2012-24-06

Unionville hosted Winsted Post 43 for a doubleheader Sunday night, June 24 at Tunxis Mead’s Grocki Field. Each team walked away with a win; Unionville taking the first game by a score of 5-4 in nine innings and Winsted the second game 5-2 in a regulation seven innings.

Juan Rojas started on the mound for Unionville in game one and held Winsted to one run in 5.1 innings.  John Arcidiacono came on to finish the sixth and Mac Crispino relieved for two.  Chad Morin faced three batters to close in the ninth and earn the win.

At the end of seven innings the score was tied at 4 sending the game into extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth and Winsted went down one two three against Morin in their half of the ninth.  Unionville’s Max Spracklin led off the bottom of the ninth with a single and was moved to second on a sac bunt by Jeff Schweighoffer.  A walk, a fly out and another single followed. Now Morin, who as a pitcher doesn’t typically take an at bat, came up for his first plate appearance in about a year. With two outs and the bases loaded, Morin calmly hit a hard grounder between second and short for a walk off single to earn the win for himself and for his team.
