Unionville Walks Off Over Simsbury 3-2

Senior Legion Baseball Unionville Post 32 on 2012-19-07

For the second time this season, a closely fought contest between Unionville and Simsbury ended in a walk off win for the boys from Post 32 on Thursday, July 19 under the lights at Tunxis Mead Park in Farmington. 

Each team plated a run in the first inning and the score remained tied at 1 through four frames. Unionville posted a go ahead run in the bottom of the fifth.  Simsbury came back to tie at 2 in the top of the seventh.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh David Kerlejza came to the plate, laced a single and was singled to third by the next batter Mac Crispino.  Kerlejza, who was held up momentarily at third, scored on an over throw to home on the play and Unionville had their walk off win.

Johnny Arcidiacono started on the mound for Unionville and pitched three solid innings.  Jimmy Mulpeter was effective for three innings in relief and Travis Kozak closed in the seventh.  The trio combined to strike out four, walk five and allow seven hits.

Kyle Richardson hurled six innings for Simsbury allowing five hits, walking five and striking out three. Jay Byers faced four batters in the seventh and gave up two hits. 

Offensive contributions by Unionville:  Mac Crispino was 2 for 4 with an RBI; Jeff Schweighoffer hit a stand up RBI double, Johnny Arcidiacono, Jimmy Mulpeter and David Kerlejza each had a single and a run scored; Travis Kozak singled.

This game concluded the regular season play for Unionville and Simsbury.  Both teams qualified for the post-season tournament and will compete in a play in round this weekend.
