Government does not grant rights!

This country was founded on the Enlightenment principle that rights are universal, inalienable and endowed by the creator to all men [not just free white men of property]. The Citizen is Sovereign not the government! We established governments, created the Constitution and formed the Union for the sole purpose of protecting and defending these rights. Government does not grant rights! And it is not up to the Connecticut General Assembly, the Federal Congress, the President or the courts to “infringe” on those rights. Once you allow government to infringe on a right that you foolishly do not value, you established the precedent that they can infringe rights. And being government that means that someday they will infringe on rights you do value. Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
