It's not a "shrinking economy" It's shrinking government spending that's the problem!

Before I start can anyone tell me the name of a town or city in Connecticut [certainly not the state] that has reduced spending in 2012.  I define reduced spending as spending less in 2012 than they spent in 2011, yeah an actual REDUCTION IN GOVERNMENT SPENDING not a reduction in what they "planned" to spend or a reduction in the planned "rate of growth" in spending or a reduction in spending for a single line item, department or agency but for the whole town or city. So lacking a long list of such actual cuts, it is interesting that in a CT Mirror article entitled GOP gets ammo in report showing shrinking CT economy, the Governor blames cuts in government spending for the decline in the CT GDP, clearly a faulty premise at best or an outright lie as usual [I digress even before I start]!

Only a Progressive / Socialist like Governor Mao Loy, his merry band of Democrat redistributionists in the CGA, and their public sector unions supporters would lie so boldly to the Sovereign Citizens of the state.  They assert that the reason the state's economic activity contracted [was less than last year] was a decline in Government spending.  When compared to all other states in the Union CT's economy performed the worst.  These educated elites assert that the reason for such poor performance was the "fact" that government spent less money. The decline in the states GDP had nothing to do with:

  • the largest increase in taxes in the history of the state,
  • failure to rein in public sector unionized employees, their pay and benefits, or the lax work rules they "serve the public" under,
  • the failure to address $42 Billion in unfunded unionized state employees' pension and retirement health care costs [for reference that is an amount roughly equal to every tax, penalty, fee, and other coerced oops collected by the state for two years],
  • state mandated sick leave and a desire to make it paid leave,
  • out of control worker compensation and unemployment costs,
  • electricity cost reportedly the second highest in the Union,
  • the failure to deal with illegal aliens [undocumented Democrat voters] and their drain on state resources,
  • the increases in the minimum wage [not the new increase the prior increases],
  • massive increases in charity [oops should have said redistribution / reparation payments to the poor, oops third time's a charm EARNED income tax credits]
  • the enthusiastic embrace of OBAMACare and the resulting increase in Charity care - oops Medicaid spending [just about the only good thing in Obama Care is the fact that it will limit the CGA's ability to pander to special interest groups and add "coverage mandates" to insurance policies written in the state],
  • the highest gas tax in the Union and the constant raids on the highway trust fund to pay for giveaways and unionized employee benefits rather than fixing the roads and bridges,
  • raids on the bottle deposits rather than refunding the money to consumers [and why do we need a deposit on bottles when every city / town has mandatory recycling - oh so we can raid the unclaim deposit fund - dummy],
  • bonding, bonding, bonding and more bonding including borrowing to cover general operating expenses [kinda like putting your take-out charges on your home equity loan prior to 2008],
  • unconstitutional "infringements" on Citizens' 2nd Amendment Rights and a generally hoplophobic population of Sheeple,
  • a governor who is a socialist, anti free market, thinks he can manage the state's economy with his first five program and has dreams of taking his "brand" national,
  • a General Assembly majority that never met a tax it didn't love or a regulation / restriction that needed to go further usually to protect the children, Gaia,  the unions or all three,
  • a Secretary of State who thinks photo copping ballots supporting Democrat candidates is cheaper and easier than dead people voting,
I'll stop because if I continued the list I would crash Patch's servers.  But be absolutely clear on one point, the decline in GDP is not the Governor's or the CGA's, or the Unions' fault!

As with most stories in the Progressive controlled media, consumers are never given context.  At any point in the story did anyone ever mention that The Bureau of Economic Analysis is changing the way it calculates GDP adding over 3% to the GDP with the change. Many factors are changing but my favorite is the new accounting for pension plans which will include what companies and government have promised to pay into pension accounts, not the present value of the pension, ignoring the large current deficits that many pensions are running. Heck with a $42 Billion unfunded liability CT's GDP should be booming under the new calculation.  These figures are turning into propaganda that would do Joseph Goebbels and his mentor Edward Louis Bernays proud!  And the Sheeple say Baah, Baah, Baah the economy is getting better, the government says so!

And what does Pravada [oops should have said The Hartford Courant] have to say about the fact that the state's economy is shrinking [oops again should have said suffering the natural consequences of the inhuman cuts to government's efforts to redistribute ill gotten wealth, ensure social justice and achieve collective salvation]? In an editorial entitled Connecticut In An Economic Headlock the Courant blames the inefficient existence of local governance and the failure to sufficiently Regionalize. They want a "system in which town government continues, but a lot of their services are pushed to a regional entity"  So you are the problem.  You are too greedy to give up your local control for the good of the Collective.  Your town meeting, local referendum form of governance places too much control over spending in the hands of the Sheeple to the determent of centralized planning, statewide "efficiency" and more unionized public sector workers with better pay and benefits than the people who pay the taxes!

With properly controlled regional governments, it would be much easier to tell the Teabaggers and Patriots to shut up, sit down, and do as your betters tell you to do [no need to go thru that whole nudge, shove, push, shoot thing that Cass Sunstein keeps talking about]! It would be much easier to ship Hartford students to Farmington Valley schools and Farmington Valley taxes to Harford [oh wait isn't that what the current local aid formula already does with $257 million going to Hartford and only $1.6 million going to Farmington - so when I speak of Redistribution this is an example of what I am talking about].

So the fix is simple, A BIGGER GOVERNMENT SPENDING MORE MONEY by definition will create a stronger economy and the best way to get more government in CT without the Sheeple getting restless is to REGIONALIZE [the whole argument is evocative Nancy Pelosi saying that "Unemployment Checks are the Fastest Way to Create Jobs"]. Why would you expect something different from Progressives and their minions at The Hartford Courant? The implementation of the UN Agenda 21 is simply a bonus!

And the reason we can't spend more money and grow government [isn't that redundant] is because we have too many towns and city with too many traditions that make it too easy for Sovereign Citizens to avoid paying their fair share.  So if we want a fair, equitable, socially just Collective, we need to eliminate the impediments [town and city government not the people who actually make things and provide services, they are leaving on their own].  Anyone willing to make book on how long it is going to take Comrades Looney and Harp from the Peoples Republic of New Haven to propose an exit tax on the assets of Sovereign Citizens departing CT.  Heck it worked everywhere in the CCCP and its client states, "sure we will let the Jews immigrate to Israel, they just have to pay an exit tax equal to everything they own and just a little bit more!"  Gotta love it when history repeats itself. I Miss America!
