UNION SCHOOL PTO DONATES $1,000 TO FARMINGTON’S LIVE FIRE TRAINING FACILITY PROJECT

Union School’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) unanimously voted to donate $1,000 to the Town of Farmington Live Fire Training Facility Project.   The Town of Farmington Fire Departments are raising $1M to go toward the construction of a live fire training facility on a site approved by the town on Round Hill Road in Farmington.  The Training Facility will be used  for hands-on, simulated fire training.

“Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 has always been one of Union School’s most dedicated and enthusiastic partners in so many ways-- from donating fire truck rides to school, to hosting field trips in their fire house, to providing fire safety intervention in our classrooms,” said PTO member Tracy Bonini.  “We wholeheartedly want to return their support with a donation for this very important project.”

To complete the project, the Town of Farmington must raise $1M to purchase and construct a pre-fabricated building and to install a water re-capture system.  Once up and running, the training facility will greatly increase opportunities to safely improve skills, which in turn saves lives, protects property, and saves the town money.

"The Town of Farmington Fire Departments are pleased to have Union School’s PTO support for such a worthwhile cause.  After all, it's all about education," said Fire Chief Richard Higley.   "The children attending Union School today are our future firefighters, and will benefit from the training facility we're building today".

Celebrating its 75th year, Union School in Farmington is a kindergarten through fourth grade elementary school, recognized as a National Exemplary School by the U.S. Department of Education.
