Farmington UNICO Awards Scholarships

Italian-American community service organization awards scholarships to three Farmington seniors.

The Farmington chapter of UNICO, an Italian-American community service organization, was founded in 1970.  Farmington UNICO has awarded $198,000 in scholarships to graduates of the Farmington and West Hartford High Schools.  This year's recipients are Aleksandr Shahnazaryan, Dagmara Sobczyk, Samantha Szewczyk, graduating from Farmington High School, and Hodo Jibril graduating from Hall High School.

In addition, in 1989 Aldo DeDominicis established a scholarship program in the name of Farmington UNICO that allows high school scholarship recipients to apply for further grants while in college. 

Lynette Badu from Farmington received a UNICO Scholarship in 2008.  She is presently a junior at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  Lynette has been awarded the Aldo DeDominicis Scholarship in 2009, 2010, and is a recipient for 2012.

Deanna Siroonian from Farmington received a UNICO Scholarship in 2009.  She is a sophomore at James Madison University, and was awarded the Aldo Scholarship in 2010 and again this year. 

Melanie Banks from West Hartford a sophomore at Marist College received a UNICO Scholarship in 2009 and was awarded the Aldo DeDominicis Scholarship this year.

Melinda Phommalinh from Farmington received a UNICO Scholarship in 2010.  She is a freshman at the University of New Haven and has been awarded an Aldo DeDominicis Scholarship for 2012.
