Farmington UNICO Invites New Members

Italian-American civic organization provides financial support for community service, youth groups and scholarships.

The Farmington chapter of UNICO would like to invite residents of Farmington and West Hartford to consider membership in our organization.  Those interested may either submit a membership application via our web site, www.farmington-unico.org, or drop a note to our post office box: UNICO, P.O. Box 238, Farmington, CT 06032.

UNICO is an Italian-American civic organization whose mission is to provide high school graduates with scholarships and to financially support local community service associations and youth groups.  Recent grant awards have included Klingberg Family Center in New Britain, high school chem free graduation nights, Farmington Food Pantry and Winding Trails among others.

Founded in Waterbury, CT in 1922, UNICO nationally now has 5,800 members in 160 chapters in 28 states.  Our Farmington chapter was founded in 1970.  Our annual fundraising activities include participation in the Unionville Festival with an Italian Ice Booth, a pasta dinner, a wine tasting at Hill-Stead Museum, and a golf tournament at Stanley Golf Course.  Our social events include a holiday dinner in December and officers installation dinner in June.  We also try to hold two presentations each year in conjunction with the Farmington Library on Italian or Italian-American heritage or culture.  These presentations are open to the public.  Recent talks have been on Dante and Italian Architecture in art.

Members do not have to have an Italian background.  An appreciation for Italy and Italian culture would be appropriate.  We currently meet monthly, September through May at Angelo’s Restaurant which is located at Rockledge Country Club in West Hartford.  If you have any questions, please contact Bob McNally (860 404-1745) or Ginny Mugavero (860 676-2792).
