Sixty youths and leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helped with the clean-up of the Farmington River near the future site of their Mormon temple along Farmington Avenue.
The Farmington River Watershed Association sponsored the event. The volunteers collected "hundreds of pounds of trash, bottles and cans," according to a release.
“Our members care deeply for keeping their communities beautiful and safe places to live," James Steele, bishop of the local Latter-day Saint congregation said in a statement. "Giving service is central to Latter-day Saint beliefs and we appreciate the Farmington River Watershed Association for providing opportunities to care for our environment."
