Happy First Day of School and Other Upcoming Events in Farmington!

Farmington students go back to school today, Aug. 26!

Happy Monday, Farmington!

Oh my, what nice weather we've been having. What a great last weekend of summer before the first day of school.

What are your kids most looking forward to about the school year? Tell us in the comments!

So, the first day of school is today! Patch will be at the clap-in ceremony at Union School in the morning. Let us know if there are any other interesting back to school events this week in Farmington by telling us in the comments or emailing me at Jessie.Sawyer@patch.com to request coverage. We'd also love to see your first day of school photos (and know you'll be taking a lot of them). If you'd like, you can upload your photos to our community boards under Around Town. We'll select some of them for a photo gallery on the site and Facebook!

The Dream Ride was Sunday in Farmington, so if you were there and took any pictures, please share them in the boards.

The Farmington Valley VNA is offering free blood pressure screenings at the Farmington Senior Center on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The Farmington Democratic Town Committee is kicking off its fall municipal election campaign at a meeting on Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Green Tea on Route 4 in Farmington.

There are a couple of fundraisers coming up for local organizations:

Dine and drink at Red Stone Pub in Simsbury on Tuesday Aug. 27 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the FOCUS Center for Autism in Canton. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

Also on Tuesday, all proceeds from sales at Ben & Jerry's in West Hartford will benefit the Emanuel Synagogue Scholarship Fund. Sounds like a good night for Americone Dream or name your favorite flavor!
