The Institute of Self Defense offers mixed martial arts instruction. Small class sizes and a whole mind and body development process has been integrated into founder and master instructor Paul T. Picciano's approach. Students of all age groups are taught core applications to use in day to day life. His main instruction is in the Korean forms of martial arts, Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. Most child classes are twice a week, one hour in length, while adults meet for 75 minutes. Word of mouth from satisfied parents and referrals are relied on for continued enrollment. Entrance is at the rear of the professional office building in a basement studio.
