The UConn Health Center is visible from the highway, East Farms School and much of Oakland Gardens. The health center includes John Dempsey Hospital, University Dentists and University Health Partners, which serve the public, as well as UConn School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine, which provide students with a high-ranking medical education and supply area hospitals with accomplished physicians.

The center includes a large research component, with 500 scientists and $100 million in grants. It consists of 39 buildings scattered across the UConn campus and nearby areas, with doctors and offices in psychology, oncology, cardiology and orthopedics, as well as one of two neo-natal intensive care units in the state equipped to care for high-risk premature babies.

The health center also provides care to Connecticut inmates, and students volunteer their time to run clinics for hundreds of low-income patients.
