I spent my fourth holding a scared, shivering dog while the fireworks went on nearby. imagine howRead More many other animals were upset by the loudness. Imagine how awful it felt for returning veterans to hear that noise again. What happened to consideration for others including animals

I must agree with Suzanne. If people want to see the fireworks, they should go to the professionalRead More displays. Backyard fireworks are disruptive at best and dangerous at worst. They can trigger PTSD in vets. They torture pets and animals. And with them going off well after midnight, they are disrespectful to those of us trying to sleep! They are the cause of people losing their fingers, hands, eyesight, and in some cases - their life. Backyard fireworks should be banned. Leave them to the professionals, PLEASE!

A higher one, indeed...If you think highways are even comparable to the amount of aid-to-the lazyRead More programs, I have a health care system I'd like you to buy into...
Conrad F. Heede July 2, 2014 at 07:45 pm
That's irrelevant. The gas tax is earmarked for highway spending.

Paul Alexander, congrats on predicting that under Obama's brilliant leadership, the DOW would hitRead More 17,000, oooooops you left off the leading 1, and predicted 7,000. Great call !!!!! Care to explain that great prediction, ranking right up there with your Mitt landslide, LMAO !!! I think this poll has a racial bias.

Aaron, how patriotic is the Patch? How many veterans are employed there, and how does that compareRead More to similar companies?
Observor June 29, 2014 at 09:13 pm
Even if being a veteran proves patriotism (Is a draftee more patriotic than someone who volunteeredRead More and was rejected on medical grounds? How patriotic were people I know who enlisted in peace time to get preference in hiring at the post office after they got out?) your methodology is flawed. I'd like to know what towns and states these folks lived in when they joined up, not where they moved later for any one of a variety of reasons.

Oh, this is also coming from another vegetarian. So don't try the "educate yourself"Read More approach on me. Google something else.

From one vegetarian to another, if someone posts recipes that involve meat, this does not mean thatRead More they are promoting eating meat. Even if they were, everyone's life choices are different. You can choose to include the meat or do without. Try attacking something a little more realistic. Meat-eaters don't throw that they eat meat in your face, so why do some vegetarians feel the need to shove their beliefs down people's throat? Unnecessary. Vegetarians aren't superior.

There are all sorts of variations to this Bacon Broccoli salad, but most recipes feature theRead More following. It's not new or unique but it IS good....and popular! Ingredients 8 ounces bacon Salt 5 cups small broccoli florets 1 cup mayonnaise 1 tablespoon cider vinegar 1/3 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup raisins 1/2 cup sunflower kernels Directions Cut the bacon into small pieces and cook over medium heat just until crisp; drain on paper towels. Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli and blanch until bright green and slightly softened, about 3 minutes. Drain well, run under cold water to stop the cooking, and drain again. In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, vinegar, onion, sugar and raisins. Add the broccoli and toss the coat with the dressing. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Just before servings, fold in the sunflower kernels and the bacon pieces. Serve immediately.
