The school, which serves the children ofMore Unionville, has been recognized as a National Exemplary School by the U.S. Department of Education. School leadership has set rigorous standards in the core academic areas, but also puts an emphasis on the arts, physical education and student citizenship.</p> <p>Over half of the student population, overseen by Principal Lynn Katz, is of a minority ethnicity. Another interesting note about Union School is the May Day celebration, which features an outdoor assembly, singing and a traditional maypole dance.</p> <p>As with all the elementary schools, Extended Care and Learning offers before and after school care for the children of working parents.</p>

West Woods holds students to high standards in core academic subjects and offers more science, social studies and music education than other schools in the state.

West District School is one of Farmington's four Kindergarten through fourth grade elementary schools. Enrollment isMore growing at West District and more than half of the school's students are of a minority ethnicity. The school was named a Blue Ribbon School in 1997 and continues to offer quality education indicated by high scores on Connecticut Mastery Tests. In addition to a rigorous curriculum, West District provides teachers that work to help their students succeed by fostering a sense of belonging to the school community. The school promotes higher-level learning through a kindergarten acceleration program, reading acceleration groups in every grade, Reading Recovery for first grade and a Math Olympiad program for fourth graders. West District is home to Farmington's Boundless Playground, accessible and fun for children of all abilities and physical conditions. In addition to the playground, West District is uniquely surrounded by vast fields leading to the trails of the Farmington Memorial Forest. As with all the elementary schools, Extended Care and Learning offers before and after school care for the children of working parents.
Irving A. Robbins Middle School

Irving A. Robbins Middle School serves about 670 students in grades 7 and 8 under the direction of Principal KellyMore Lyman. The school aims to help students adjust as they transition from childhood toward adolescence by using team teaching.</p> <p>At this level, foreign languages, applied physics and engineering, health, wellness, physical education, and family and consumer science are introduced into the curriculum; Latin is offered as an elective. Test scores remain high at the middle school and tend to increase from seventh to eighth grade. Many of Robbins' teachers are award-winning or state-recognized for excellence.</p>

Farmington High School

Farmington High School is a standards-based school intent on graduating students of high academic acheivement.More Recently the school district has extended the town's focus to include a civic component, which will produce the type of graduates employers are looking for: self-motivated, responsible, communicative and innovative.</p> <p>In addition to high GPAs and outstanding test scores, Farmington High School is noted for its art and music programs. Unbeatable soccer teams are a hallmark of the town and the high school's boys and girls teams are both known around the state.</p> <p>Despite several years of budget cuts, Farmington High School, led by Principal Timothy Breslin, continues to offer a broad range of sports and non-academic programs.</p> <p>One note-worthy fact is that 9.9% of the school's 2008 students came from homes where English was not the primary language.</p>

Miss Porter's School

Noah Wallace School

This school is tucked behind the FirstMore Church of Christ in Farmington Village. Students at Noah Wallace consistently score well on the Connecticut Mastery Tests and regularly engage in community activities like a mail system and reading with buddies in different grades. Principal Diane Cloud directs a dedicated team of teachers.</p> <p>The Noah Wallace Student Council has led the way for students to raise money and necessities for charities such as FIDELCO, Pennies for Peace, the Farmington Food Pantry and children living in shelters.</p> <p>As with all local elementary schools, Extended Care and Learning offers before and after school care for the children of working parents.</p>

East Farms School

East Farms, one of Farmington's four K-4 elementary schools, was closed for a while because it was not needed. In theMore past few years, enrollment has increased dramatically, making it the largest school in the district. Under the direction of Principal Renee St. Hillaire, class sizes continue to average around 20 students, with aides in lower-grade classes providing extra support to teachers and to students with special needs.</p> <p>Students at East Farms score well on Connecticut Mastery Tests, thanks to dedicated teachers and Farmington's trademark rigorous curriculum. Special programs like reading recovery for grades 2 to 4 and an early-intervention math program for first graders are also in place to ensure every child keeps up.</p> <p>East Farms is surrounded by trees and edged by a pond used for science observation. It is also across the street from Irving A. Robbins Middle School and near UConn Health Center.</p> <p>As with all the elementary schools, Extended Care and Learning offers before and after school care for the children of working parents.</p>
